Shi Lin Chen, Ph.D, Professor

SCIENTIFIC ADVISOR

Background

Dr. Shi Lin Chen is the Principal Investigator at the Chinese Institutes of Materia Medica and the director in the Traditional Medicine Cooperation Center of the World Health Organization. He worked as the director of the Institute of medicinal Plants of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and was a visiting professor at both the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Tokyo Pharmaceutical University. Dr. Chen received professional training at the Royal Botanic Gardens and the Mclean Hospital of Harvard Medical School. He is now working as the director of National Engineering Laboratory of “Endangered medicinal Materials Breeding”, Chairman at the Chinese pharmaceutical Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine and natural Medicine, and a member of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Advisory group on the United States Pharmacopoeia.

Achievement

Professor Shi Lin Chen created an ITS2-based Chinese herbal DNA barcode identification method system and complete the monograph “Chinese Pharmacopoeia Chinese herbal medicine DNA barcode standard sequence”. He helped solve the problem of identifying the authenticity of Chinese herbal medicine species from a genetic level, which was named China’s Top Ten Medicinal progress in 2016. His genome-wide analysis of the Ganoderm Lucidum named it the first Chinese traditional medicinal model fungus and was selected by Nature China to be the best research highlight in China.

He has published more than 400 papers in which around 200 of those are SCI papers and was selected onto the Chinese Scholars List by Elsevier for four consecutive years.
